Responding to Mayhem on Our Screens

In reaction to a Jan. 21st letter to the New York Times editor about gun control, the National Rifle Association, and the impact of violent media on young audiences, associate professor of media and screen studies Murray Forman offers his take on the complex issue. “In the same way that an actual gunshot to the face is significantly different from a punch in the nose, media portrayals of violence are not homogeneous, nor are their influences alike,” Forman writes.
