On April 3, 2014, Assistant Professors Lucy Maulsby and Amanda Reeser Lawrence brought together leading Boston-area academics to discuss the challenges and opportunities posed by the online teaching of architectural history. The workshop was the first in a series organized by the School of Architecture to address critical topics in contemporary architectural education.
This first “Practice of Teaching” evening featured four speakers–Assistant Professor Paolo Scrivano from Boston University, Associate Professor Marc Neveu from Wentworth, and PhD candidates Ana Maria Leon from MIT, and Marikka Trotter from Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. Their short presentations framed the discussion, led by Maulsby and Lawrence, which ranged from the nuts-and-bolts of online assessment and course setup, to larger issues of student/instructor distance, changing student expectations, and learning objectives.
Professors Maulsby and Lawrence are preparing their findings for publication.
