Alumni News: Joseph Pucci (M.ARCH 2015)

The thesis project of Joseph Pucci (M.ARCH 2015) has been included in a new book, Constructing the Persuasive Portfolio, the only primer you’ll ever needwritten by Margaret Fletcher. Fletcher is an Associate Professor of Architecture at Auburn University. The book provides a detailed focus to the art of designing a compelling and effective architectural portfolio. There were over 10,000 pages of portfolios submitted by students for possible inclusion in this publication. The final selection displays 400 portfolio examples from 55 designers representing 50 schools nationwide.

While in the M.Arch program, Joseph designed a proposal for an Olympic Stadium in response to Boston’s pursuit of hosting the Olympics. The work was done in Associate Professor Tim Love’s master’s degree project studio Beacon Yards: De Novo Urbanism, which focused on the urban design issues raised by MassDOT’s proposal for the redesign of the Allston/Cambridge interchange of the Massachusetts Turnpike in Boston.

After studying the complexities surrounding the site, ten graduate students worked with Love to produce a comprehensive master plan for land owned by MassDOT, Harvard University, and Boston University. Their collective vision is centered on a new commuter rail/transit station, an integrated open space/stormwater network, and a hierarchy of new streets that have been designed to accommodate an integrated range of transportation modes.
