The Michael Woodnick Teaching for Tomorrow Award honors a senior Communication Studies major (including combined majors) who shows exemplary achievement and demonstrated promise for a career in education (either as a teacher or professor). This award is open to students applying for teaching jobs (like Teach for America) or to graduate school in Communication and Media Studies or related disciplines. The award is based on the strength of an applicant’s academic performance, teaching related activities (serving as a teaching or research assistant or an education related co-op), and a personal essay about the decision to pursue a career in education.

The Michael Woodnick Quality of Life Award honors a senior Communication Studies major (including combined majors) who shows a clear understanding of how authentic communication informs and influences their relationships. The award is based on the strength of an applicant’s academic performance, extracurricular and/or work related activities, and a personal essay which describes a relationship(s) where a specific outcome was significantly influenced based on the knowledge gained from their Communication Studies education. In recent years, the most compelling essays have integrated education, work experience, family and friends, and health.

This Production Achievement award recognizes excellence and creativity in work completed in production classes offered in CAMD or independently during the 2022-2023 academic year.

The Richard Katula Academic Achievement Award honors a senior Communication Studies Major (including combined majors) for exceptional academic achievement. Grade point average is an important consideration, but the Katula Award also recognizes scholarly activity such as a senior honors thesis, an exceptional seminar paper, or presentations at an academic conference.

The Curtis Lemar Haigh Scholarship honors the memory of an exceptional Communication Studies major who contributed to Northeastern University while managing a daunting series of physical limitations. Past recipients have been students who have exemplified Curtis’s commitment to the institution, both in the classroom and outside, and who have responded in an exemplary way to the challenges of higher education.
