A concert by Garam Ensemble, consisting of winners of the 2nd Garam Gugak Competition on August 3, 2018, will be held in Northeastern University (See above.) Garam Ensemble members are Minhyuk Yoon (윤민혁, ajaeng), Jiwon Chang (장지원, sori), Hyewon Kim (김혜원, gayageum), and Soobin Park (박수빈, daegum). Prior to the concert in Boston, Garam Ensemble performs at the 23rd annual concerts by the Korean Performing Arts Center in New York, and at the Hartford University.
The program in the concert includes Daegum solo “Chung-sung (청성곡)” (transcribed from am art Song), Gayageum and Ajaeng sanjos (a free-style improvisation), “Farewell (이별가)” from pansori Chunhyang (춘향가), and Sinawi (시나위, improvisation). In the workshop immediately preceding the concert (1:35-2:40 PM), various genres of Gugak will be discussed.
The workshop (hosted by Prof. Tony De Ritis) and the concert are supported by the Northeastern University Department of Music here in Boston and the Korean Performing Arts Center in New York.
