Lighting Design with Cindy Limauro

Cindy Limauro will initiate the Northeastern Center for the Arts Tools for Creativity workshop series, leading lighting design workshops with students in College of Architecture and the Department of Theatre.

Limauro designs for theatre, opera, dance, and architecture. She is a Design Partner in C & C Lighting and a Professor of Lighting Design at Carnegie Mellon University in the Schools of Drama and Architecture. She is a member of United Scenic Artists (USA) and International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) and was named a Fellow of the Institute by USITT for Outstanding Contribution to the Theatre.

The purpose of this workshop is to provide instruction in lighting design to Architecture and Theatre professors and students who do not currently have a course in their curriculum.  This workshop will enable faculty to add a lighting design component to existing architecture courses or to create a basic lighting design course. Students will gain a basic knowledge of lighting to incorporate in their thinking about materials and space. The workshop will include hands-on learning about light through lab exercises and will provide a template for faculty to create a lighting design course with projects.

Faculty and students will have the opportunity to:

  • explore light as a visual design element
  • apply the physical properties of light in design applications
  • understand physiological, psychological and cultural aspects of light
  • explore light and materials
  • explore light and people
  • establish design goals and a point of view in lighting interior and exterior spaces
  • become familiar with luminaires and light sources including LEDs

Supported by the 2013 Nuckolls Fund for Lighting Education.

Presented by Theatre and Architecture, Northeastern College of Arts, Media and Design.
