In The Wired City, Dan Kennedy explores the ecosystem of online journalism at the local and regional level using the New Haven Independent, a nonprofit community website, as a case study. With the print newspaper industry taking a downturn in recent years, Internet news sources have been rushing in to fill the void. The Wired City tells the stories of those who are doing it right. With input from journalists, activists, and civic leaders, The Wired City is a testament to the potential of online journalism in the volatile and dynamic world of local and regional news.
Dan Kennedy is an assistant professor of journalism at Northeastern University who writes on media issues for the Nieman Journalism Lab, the Huffington Post, and other publications and websites. He is a panelist on Beat the Press, a weekly program about media issues on WGBH-TV (Channel 2) in Boston. His work has an emphasis on blogging, multimedia, and social networks, and he teaches news reporting, media law, and other journalism courses.
