Architecture Lecture: Jason Lee
School of Architecture Lecture Series
de Architekten Cie. is an international practice with headquarters in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and branch offices in Zagreb, Croatia and Shanghai, China. Since its inception in 1988, the core business of the firm has been social housing, urban design, and design research. The firm has won numerous awards, both international and domestic, and has been featured in countless publications. Currently, founding partner Frits van Dongen is the Rijksbouwmeester or Queen’s State Architect, an appointed honour he will hold for the coming four years. Over the years, the firm has become active in almost all sectors of design. However, de Architekten Cie. is committed to the design and construction of social housing which we regard as a critical pursuit within the discipline and one that is fundamental to healthy urban environments.
Jason Lee (b. Vancouver, Canada), is a registered architect in the Netherlands with 10 years of experience in practice. He holds a Bachelor of Anthropology from McGill University and a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Toronto where he graduated with both highest honors and the Thesis Medal from the Royal Architecture Institute of Canada (2004). Within the firm, Jason is a Senior Associate, Director of Cie.Asia (branch office in Shanghai) and largely responsible for international projects and assignments. His current projects include: the Seoul Gangnam District Design Masterpiece Housing development – a 1400 unit social housing and mixed-use project in Seoul, South Korea; Vlashika/Laikova – the urban and architectural design of a satellite city of Moscow which will contain over 1 million square meters of residential program (exclusive all other functions and amenities); and the Kaohsiung Port Station urban design – strategic planning and consulting about the adaptive reuse of the brownfield site of the former industrial railyards for the municipal government of Kaohsiung. In addition to his project work, Jason’s writing has been published in the Conditions Magazine, MONU (Magazine on Urbanism), and the International New Towns Institute (reader).
