Dakuo Wang is a jointly appointed Associate Professor at the College of Arts, Media and Design and Khoury College of Computer Sciences. His research lies in the intersection between human-computer interaction (HCI) and artificial intelligence (AI). As a former Research Team Lead at IBM Research AI, Cambridge, Massachusetts, he led a team of researchers, engineers, and designers to conduct research and design user experience for IBM AI Automation, a solution to automate the end-to-end data science workflow. From studying how users work with various AI systems such as AutoAI, chatbots, and clinical decision support systems (CDSS), he proposes “Human-AI Collaboration” as a new framework to study and design AI systems to work together with humans.

Wang received his Ph.D. and M.S. in Information and Computer Science from the University of California Irvine, a Diplôme d’Ingénieur (M.S.) in Information System from École Centrale d’Électronique Paris, and a B.S. in Computer Science from Beijing University of Technology. He has worked as an engineer, designer, and researcher in France, China, and the United States.

Dakuo Wang now serves as ACM CSCW’21 Co-Chair in Demo, ECSCW’20 Co-Chair in Sponsorship, ACM GROUP’20 Co-Chair in Workshop, ACM CHI’19 Co-Chair in Social Media. He also serves in ACM SIGCHI China Chapter Vice-Present, and International Chinese Association of CHI (ICACHI) steering committee 2018-2020, as well as in Program Committee for various SIGCHI-sponsored conferences. ACM has recognized Dakuo Wang as an ACM Distinguished Speaker in 2019.
