Jacob Depue

Part-Time Lecturer

Dr. Jacob Depue is a Lecturer in the Department of Communication Studies. Prior to joining Northeastern, Dr. Depue worked for three years as a program evaluator at Professional Data Analysts in Minneapolis, MN, where he evaluated health communication media campaigns.

Dr. Depue received his B.A. in psychology (neuroscience core) from Macalester College in 2004, graduating with honors. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication. He successfully defended his dissertation, Why People Talk About Antismoking Media Content and the Implications for Health Communication Campaigns in 2012.

Dr. Depue’s research focuses on health and political communication. He is interested in health campaign evaluation and the ways in which interpersonal communication facilitate diffusion of media messages. His work has been published in Social Marketing Quarterly, Annals of Behavioral Medicine, and Communication Research. He has also presented his research at a number of national communication conferences, and has served as a reviewer for Health Communication.

In the Department of Communication Studies, Dr. Depue teaches courses in advertising , research methods and health communication. Prior to joining the department, he taught at the University of Minnesota
