Skylar Borgstrom is a Boston and New York-based artist utilizing intersectional feminism as a research platform to explore themes of resistance, disillusion, and emotional vulnerability in the United States. At the root of her practice is a desire to understand the systems in which we function, thrive, and fail so that we may thoughtfully bring about change. Within her work, several mediums collide including painting and drawing, sculpture, and textiles. Borgstrom’s current research interests include violence as a political tool and US gun culture. “As someone who grew up in Canada, Western Europe, and the Middle East I am profoundly curious about American culture and its political system.”
Born in Alberta, Canada, Borgstrom received a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Calgary, a B.F.A. in Drawing, with Distinction, from Alberta University of the Arts, and an M.F.A. in Studio Art from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Borgstrom has shown work in Western Canada, New York State, and Boston, MA.
