Deadline for registering for CAMD’s Graduation is April 15, 2017!

Dean Elizabeth Hudson and the College of Arts, Media and Design are proud to celebrate the academic accomplishments of our 2017 graduates at our upcoming first-ever graduation ceremony on Thursday, May 4 at 1 p.m. This is an exciting time for all of us—one filled with pride for the many achievements along with joy and excitement for all that is yet to come. Join us and take part in our tribute to you.

This web page contains the answers to your many questions surrounding CAMD’s graduation celebration. We hope you find it useful and refer back here as the day approaches.

Participating in the CAMD graduation requires a two-step process: Apply to graduate in the University’s Commencement on Friday, May 5, here, and then register using the form on the lower right by April 15 to let us know that you’ll be joining us in CAMD’s graduation ceremony on Thursday, May 4. We encourage graduates to attend both the CAMD graduation on May 4 and the University Commencement on May 5!

CAMD’s first College-wide student awards

For the first time, in addition to the traditional department awards, CAMD will be announcing College-wide awards – two awards for scholarly projects, one by an undergraduate and one by a graduate student; two awards for creative projects, one by an undergraduate and one by a graduate student, and one award for excellence in experiential education. Each winner will receive a $500 award. Award winners will be announced at CAMD’s Graduation ceremony on May 4. For more details, inquire in your department’s office.

How do I apply to graduate?

All eligible degree candidates must complete the Northeastern Graduation Application. For more information regarding the Graduation Application click here or contact your academic advisor.

Then, to participate in CAMD’s graduation ceremony on May 4, 2017, you must complete the CAMD Graduation Registration in the right-hand sidebar by April 15.

(Students in Certificate Program for Arts Administration and Cultural Entrepreneurship are not eligible to participate in the University’s commencement ceremony and will not have the option to complete the University’s graduation application form. However, they may participate in CAMD’s graduation ceremony. Certificate program graduates with additional questions should reach out to Moki Smith at mk.smith@northeastern.edu.)

Do I need to purchase a cap and gown?

Graduates do not need to order or purchase a cap and gown. Once a student has completed the University’s Graduation Application, they will automatically receive a cap and gown. To participate in the CAMD graduation ceremony, all students must wear a cap and gown. Caps and gowns for undergraduate and graduate students may be picked up the Cabot Center/Solomon Court on Tuesday, May 2 or Wednesday, May 3 between 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.

A student ID or comparable identification is needed to pick up your cap and gown.

Honor Cords may be picked up with caps and gowns.

What if I have a combined major and/or double major?

If you have a combined major and/or double major, you will walk across the stage once; however, both degree accomplishments will be announced when your name is called. You must select one department to march with. Declare on your application for graduation and CAMD registration form the degree/program in which you want to march.

Where can I get graduation photographs?

Grad Images is the official photographer for graduation. Proofs will be available to view online and can be ordered online, by phone or by mail. Grad Images can be contacted at www.gradimages.com.

What if I am no longer planning to march?

If you registered for CAMD’s graduation registration but have changed your mind, please contact CAMD at 617.373.3682 ASAP or no later than Friday, April 28.

How many tickets can I obtain?

Graduates may invite up to two guests to attend CAMD’s graduation exercises. Admission tickets are free and will be available in your department office. Tickets are required for admission to the Hynes Convention Center ballroom and will be collected at the door. Please plan accordingly when inviting guests to your graduation ceremony; you can be guaranteed only two admission tickets. Fire marshal regulations require every guest, including children (except infants), to have a ticket.

Please be sure you will be able to attend the ceremony before you indicate that you will march, as we reserve seating for all graduates who sign up to march. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

What if I need extra admission tickets?

Graduates will be issued up to 2 tickets for guests. Because of the large number of graduates we expect to have signed up to march at our graduation ceremony on May 4, we will be unable to provide extra tickets for guest admission to the Hynes Convention Center ballroom on the day of the graduation.

A limited number of additional admission tickets for the ceremony (pending availability) may be available beginning Monday, May 1. If available, an email will be sent to registered graduates alerting them of additional ticket availability on the morning of May 1 and where to pick them up. A maximum of two additional tickets per marching graduate will be permitted, based on availability. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Graduates picking up extra tickets must show their student ID.

Do I need a ticket for a child?

All children except infants are required to have an admission ticket.

When should I arrive?

Graduates should plan on arriving no later than 11-11:30 a.m. Doors will open for guests starting at 11 a.m. as well. Graduates will be organized into marching lines so that the processional may begin at 1 p.m.

The commencement ceremony will conclude around 3 p.m.

Can I bring a bag?

For the safety and security of those attending commencement, CAMD is restricting the size of bags that will be allowed into the ballroom on Thursday, May 4. Any item larger than 12 inches by 12 inches including, but not limited to, large bags, backpacks, packages and large purses, will not be permitted inside and should be left at home. Anyone carrying such an item will be asked to return it to his or her vehicle. These are precautionary measures and are not in response to a specific threat. Thank you for your cooperation.

 What is the dress code?

There is no formal dress code. Business casual is recommended. Graduates should wear appropriate clothing and comfortable footwear.

What do I do if I or my guest has special needs (i.e. mobility, hearing, etc) that need to be accommodated?

Please e-mail all details to Richard Coren at r.coren@northeastern.edu at least a week prior to the ceremony so that we may further accommodate you. If you do not provide notice of special needs prior to the ceremony, we will not be able to guarantee designated seating and assistance.

Regarding Mobility: The Hynes Convention Center is fully handicap accessible and designated seating will be available in the ballroom to those with wheelchairs and guests traveling with them.

Regarding Hearing:  We will have two ASL sign language interpreters at the front of the stage during the ceremony.
