Will Northeastern’s campus be smoke-free?

Will Northeastern University join the 1,130 smoke-free colleges nationwide? In her article “Northeastern moves to make campus smoke-free,” in’s “Your Campus,” Feb. 4, Lauren Spinella reported that a committee of staff and students was formed in December to explore the issue.   The committee is headed by John Auerback, director of the Institute on Urban Health Research at Northeastern and Terry Fulmer, Dean of the Bouvé College of Health Sciences.

A public forum to discuss a possible smoking ban on Northeastern’s campus was held January 29 to discuss the pros and cons of taking this action.   Spinella said the forum “drew equal numbers of supporters and opponents.

Spinella is a student in Lisa Chedekel’s “Your Town” class.
