Art + Design

Irene de la Torre, alumna of Northeastern University’s MFA in Information Design and Data Visualization program, is an information designer and journalist who is a member of the Visual Journalism Team at BBC News. She was on the team that recently produced the visualization entitled Coronavirus: How can we imagine the scale of Covid’s death toll? In it, flowers – symbols of grief, peace, and love – as well as sound serve as a tribute to those who have died. It works to help viewers grasp the immense scale of lose that the COVID-19 pandemic has left. View the visualization here.

The visualization was by Irene de la Torre Arenas, Sarah Rainbow, Scott Jarvis, Catriona Morrison, Ed Lowther and Harriet Agerholm.
