This summer in at the Rio 2016 Olympic summer games, fifth year architecture student Kariman Abuljadayel made history as the first female sprinter from Saudi Arabia to ever compete in the 100m. Additionally, she set a new personal and national record for her country.

Kariman started training while studying architecture at Northeastern. She felt the faculty and staff at the university supported her through this journey towards the Olympics. She also felt that her professors were really understanding about the demands of training and worked with her to be successful both on the track and in the studio. Without that level of support and accommodation, Kariman belives she would not have been able to achieve what she did in Rio. She had the opportunity to speak with some of the major media outlets about this incredible experience that was profoundly personal to her and also an important achievement for Saudi Arabia.
