CAMD’s Chalk Around the Block 2017

The College of Arts, Media and Design (CAMD)’s inaugural Chalk Around the Block competition, held on Friday, September 29, was a huge success. CAMD undergraduate and graduate students from various majors – from Journalism to Game Design to Fine Art – registered to participate for a day chalk-full of fun, art, and the chance to win a $200 Amazon gift card. The colorful artist designs included pets, an underwater world, realistic celebrity portrait, flowers, abstract designs and symbols, and more.

Student onlookers were encouraged to grab some free lemonade from our 90s-inspired lemonade stand, enjoy our playlist pulled together from recommendations by the contestants themselves, and take a look at the amazing street art that was coming to life. At the end of the event, three Art + Design faculty members, Jamal Thorne, Julia Hechtman, and Andrea Raynor, came around to judge. They determined that this year’s winner was Victoria Barranco, a fourth-year Media Arts and Animation student. Congratulations to Victoria, and thank you to all our participants and everyone who stopped by.
