CAMD recently hosted the 6th Annual Listen to the Music: It’s All About the Song, About the Song! panel in Shillman Hall, which offered students the opportunity to network and receive feedback on their work. The panel hosted three respected professionals in the music world, including Micah Premnath ‘10, a Music Industry alumnus and songwriter with BMG; Jeff Geasey, Senior Director and Creative A&R at BMG; and Rick Markowitz, Warner Chappell Artist Manager and Producer at Smarterchild.
The event was a hit with CAMD students, who jumped at the opportunity to ask questions, network, and share demos with experienced professionals in the music industry.
“It was an informative event,” said CAMD student Sidney Gish, who is majoring in Music Industry and is Co-President of Northeastern’s Songwriting Club. “I appreciated being able to get perspective from the songwriting and producing side of things, as many music industry courses I’ve taken are more focused on business.”
Beyond the panel, the more than 20 students who attended were also invited to take part in one-on-one demo sessions and earn constructive feedback from the professionals on their personal music projects.
“For me, this year’s Listen to the Music event was really beneficial as I was able to gain feedback on my original music and insight into a professional level of songwriting. It was so valuable to have the opportunity to connect with Micah, Jeff, and Rick and hear their unique stories,” said Desiree McCann, CAMD’19, Music Industry.
This year’s Listen to the Music Panel was a resounding success due to Micah, Jeff, and Rick’s fantastic involvement with the Q&A session and one-on-one demo-sharing sessions, which helped to encourage and inspire CAMD’S Music students. We were excited to welcome back an alumnus and his colleagues to campus, and look forward to continued collaborations!
