Concert and spoken word, presented by the Museum of African American History

Please join Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh, the Museum’s Executive Director Marita Rivero, and keynote speaker Topper Carew — civil rights activist, filmmaker, and MIT scholar — for the city’s annual tribute to Dr. King.

Three distinguished leaders will evoke the power and the promise of the civil rights hero, and commemorate historical milestones: Dr. Pam Y. Eddinger, President, Bunker Hill Community College; Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra (BYSO) alumna Alexandra Morgan-Welch, Business Analyst at Credit Suisse, New York; and Dr. Emmett G. Price III, Associate Professor of Music, Northeastern University.

Conductor Marta Zurad will lead student musicians from the BYSO’s Intensive Community Program in a moving array of classical music, spirituals, and freedom songs.  The day’s festivities culminate with the traditional audience sing-a-long.

Be sure to visit the Museum of African American History on nearby Beacon Hill before the concert as admission is free to all on MLK Day; doors open at 10am.
