Residential drug treatment is a better place than jail for moms who are addicted to drugs. Massachusetts now runs 14 state funded recovery homes for mothers and pregnant women who are facing jail time or who are on probation. Meredith Berg, a graduate student in the Media Innovation program, tells the story about how these homes are changing the lives of these women.   Her story, “Massachusetts Mobilizes to Treat Addicted Moms,” was published in The Marshall Project’s website on January 19.

The story was also published on Fusion,

Berg is a free lance journalist and is working on a micro-documentary focusing on sentencing alternatives for women.
