Tony nominated and award-winning composer Larry O’Keefe will visit campus on Friday, September 15 to meet with students as part of the NU Broadway visiting artist series. Mr. O’Keefe won the Lucille Lortel Award and Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical for Bat Boy: The Musical, which ran off-Broadway from March 3 to December 2, 2001, followed by over 500 regional and amateur productions all over the USA. Bat Boy also received eight Drama Desk Award nominations, including nods for Outstanding Music and Outstanding Lyrics and won two Richard Rodgers Awards from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Mr. O’Keefe co-wrote Heathers, a musical based on the movie of the same name, which premiered in Los Angeles in 2013 and off-Broadway in 2014. It will be produced on the NU campus this fall by NU Stage Musical Theatre Society.

He will be joined for the event by his frequent collaborator Nell Benjamin with whom he wrote Legally Blonde: The Musical, which ran on Broadway for a year and a half. For their work on Legally Blonde, they received Drama Desk nominations for Outstanding Music and Outstanding Lyrics, as well as a Tony Award nomination for Best Score.
