Sam Beebe, Music Technology ’09, will have a new piece premiered by Castles of our Skins on Friday, March 18 at 7:30 at Roxbury Community College.

Sam writes:

“I won a commission last year from the performing group Castle of our Skins to set to music the words an African American writer/artist/leader. It’s a project that introduced me to poet Sonia Sanchez here in Philadelphia, and one that took me the better part of six months to bring together. It’s seven songs for soprano, tenor, string quartet, and piano, featuring arias and duets focused on the true story of two siblings encountering the AIDS epidemic at its emergence in the 1980’s”

Castles of our Skins was out of the desire to foster cultural curiosity, Castle of our Skins celebrates Black artistry through music. From classrooms to concert halls, Castle of our Skins invites exploration into Black heritage and culture, spotlighting both unsung and celebrated figures of past and present.
