Art + Design

The Remembrance of Climate Futures project is a series of site-specific installations that address the issue of climate change. The topic and location of each installation are based on scientific projections and the installations take the form of an ‘historical’ marker documenting the effects of climate change as written from the point of view of the 22nd century. Tom Starr, Professor in the Department of Art + Design, is the creator of the project, which received early support from a CAMD seed grant.

With the help of research assistants Jacopo Conti and Emma Nguyen, Professor Starr has expanded the project to a European audience with new work underway in the Lugano region of Switzerland. In November, he and his team will present their work at the Swiss Design Network’s symposium “Design in/for Transformation” in Bern. They will talk about the methodology of developing the project content—topics, text, interactivity—and the process of collaborating with municipalities.

Remembrance of Climate Futures currently comprises more than 100 site-specific installations.
