Lighting Designer for Nora and A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Based in Boston for more than 20 years, Karen Perlow is an award-winning lighting designer whose work has been seen at theatres all across New England including SpeakEasy Stage Company, Lyric Stage, Actor’s Shakespeare Project, New Repertory Theater, Central Square Theater, American Repertory Theatre, Boston Playwrights’ Theater, Boston Midsummer Opera, Wheelock Family Theatre, Huntington Theatre Company, and Shakespeare & Company. She taught Lighting Design at MIT for 13 years where she designed over 60 productions. Karen has also been a guest designer at Boston Conservatory, Boston College, Brandeis University, Providence College, Tufts University and Emerson College. She is the recipient of the 2002 and 2006, and 2008 IRNE Award for Best Lighting Design, as well as Best Lighting Design for the NYC United Solo Festival in 2013. She finds combining her professional work and teaching undergraduates to be a rewarding and stimulating combination. She is proud to serve as the treasurer of the Theater Community Benevolent Fund, a non-profit organization which serves Boston area theatre artists. This season, she will be designing A Midsummer Nights’ Dream here at NEU as well as Grand Concourse at SpeakEasy Stage, Paradise at Central Square Theater, and Camelot and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? at The Lyric Stage Company.
