Assistant Professor – Experience Design
Dr. Miso Kim (PhD, Carnegie Mellon) is an assistant professor in the College of Arts, Media and Design at Northeastern University. She holds a PhD in Design, an MDes in Interaction Design, and an MDes in Communication Planning and Information Design from Carnegie Mellon School of Design. She also holds a BS in Architecture from Sungkyunkwan University in Korea. Prior to joining Northeastern, Miso was a Senior User Experience Designer in the Cloud Collaboration Technology Group at Cisco Systems in Silicon Valley, leading efforts to redesign WebEx’s virtual meeting experience. At Carnegie Mellon, she developed and taught service design, experience design, and information design courses, while working on diverse interdisciplinary research projects such as the Domestic Manual Transformation Project for the US Postal Service, the Public Informed Citizen Online Assembly for Deliberate Democracy, the Citizen Health Checkup Report for the Korean Government, and the Mattress Factory Museum service redesign. Her design research investigates service, dignity, and participation grounded on the humanities and emerging technology. She has published and presented in international journals and conferences such as Design Issues, the ACM Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI), the Design Research Society (DRS), and the International Association of Societies of Design Research (IASDR).
