Darren Evans

Theatre Operations Specialist

Darren Evans is a multi-dimensional, award-winning theatre artist who has been a member of the Boston theatre community for over 15 years. Prior to coming to Northeastern, Evans was the Director of Programs at the Boston Center for the Arts where he created and managed staff, budgets, and multiple performance and rehearsal spaces in the multidisciplinary two-acre arts complex. He oversaw the Resident Theatre Company Program and was the primary liaison between the BCA and emerging and established theatre companies, including the Tony Award-winning Huntington Theatre Company.

Simultaneous to his work at the BCA, Darren founded Theatre on Fire, a resident company at the Charlestown Working Theater. TOF produces contemporary work has become known as one of New England’s most dynamic fringe theatre companies. The company has been nominated for more than a dozen IRNE Awards and three Elliot Norton Awards. Primarily producing in Charlestown, the company is also known for its Home Invasion program, in which they perform plays set in houses in actual homes across Greater Boston.

Darren has also worked with numerous Boston-area theatre companies as a freelance director, designer and production manager, including Company One, Zeitgeist Stage, Centastage, The Theater Offensive, and more. Darren received his M.A. in Theatre Education from Emerson College. In 2010, he received Company One’s Lois Roach Award for Commitment to the Boston Theatre Community. He currently serves on the board of StageSource, where he is the Chair of the Membership and Marketing Committee. He is also a judge for the annual Massachusetts High School Drama Festival.
