Parrots develop friendships through Zoom calls

Rebecca Kleinberger

CAMD Music professor Rébecca Kleinberger, along with researchers from Northeastern and the University of Glasgow, introduced video calls to parrots. They were curious to see how the birds would interact with one another through video calls over a three-month period.

The results show that captive birds can form relationships with other birds through a screen. In fact, the study suggests that these calls can improve quality of life for birds in captivity, who may otherwise not interact with others.
