Rebuilding schools in rural Ethiopian conflict zones

In collaboration with the Ethiopian Association of Architects (AEA), architecture professor Alpha Arsano and a Lesley University Art + Design professor proposed designs for pre-K through high schools in Ethiopia, where, according to the Ministry of Education, most of the existing rural school infrastructure does not meet the basic requirements of a school facility.

Arsano contributed professional knowledge along with more than 150 architects as a pro-bono service, performing environmental and contextual analysis and proposing a prototype that can be adapted for selected rural villages, particularly those most affected by recent conflicts resulting in unimaginable destruction in the past two years.
