Allison Cockshaw-Betsold joins the Northeastern University community as Assistant Director of Bands with big ideas and an eagerness to collaborate. In her new role, she will direct the NU Pep Band, as well as the Concert Band, and is excited to lead the charge of infusing volleyball, basketball, and hockey games with an energy that cannot be ignored.
Under Allison’s direction, the NU Pep Band, which is around 150 members and plays everything from showtunes to modern pop hits, will be firing up the crowds at all home games and a handful of local tournaments. Allison views one of the keys to its success as collaboration with Music Department faculty, Northeastern athletics, and various student councils – and is eager to work together to ensure all talents are shining brightly.
“I am thrilled to become a part of Northeastern’s growing community as the Assistant Director of Bands. The NU Pep Band has a big job – we are responsible for building up the energy of both the fans and the athletes, and bringing life to these sporting events,” said Allison. “Through practice and hard-work, I am confident that the music we produce will sound great. We also want to make sure that the audience can recognize the songs, so that they can get into the music.”
Allison returns to her home state of Massachusetts after earning her master’s degree in wind conducting at the University of Kansas (KU). Before going to KU, she received her bachelor’s degree from University of Massachusetts Amherst in music education and trumpet performance. She currently resides in the South Shore.
