A design project by the School of Architecture’s Dan Adams, Director, has been recognized by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) with 2019 National Honor Award for Regional and Urban Design (full press release here).

The Infra-Space Initiative is a product of Landing Studio, a design firm led by Professor Adams, and addresses the state’s most overlooked spaces: the landscapes beneath elevated highway viaducts. Transforming these inaccessible and foreboding spaces through clever programming, placemaking, and lighting, the initiative is helping to ameliorate the negative impacts of highways on cities with the added environmental benefit of treating significant amounts of stormwater runoff.
