David Dawson II is the Associate Director for PhD programs, overseeing the Interdisciplinary Design and Media PhD program.
Originally from Detroit, MI, David is a graduate of Indiana University-Bloomington (BA English) and Northeastern University (MEd Higher Education Administration, MS Organizational Communication). He is a career academic and student affairs employee.
David’s approach to working with doctoral students is to recognize them as early career colleagues. He recognizes that they are developing critical skils, experience, and knowledge that will provide unique benefits to their chosen field. David appreciates opportunities to support students in navigating professional challenges.
David is passionate about supporting his fellow staff members. He previously facilitated affinity groups like Northeastern Future Leaders, ACES acadmeic advisor professional development group, and the Northeastern Cohort of The Partnership. David endeavors to bring professional development into context by taking generalized information and identifying individualized opportunities for application.
David is interested in investigating links between individual growth (i.e., professional development) and organizational development. He believes that collaboration and mutual respect are keys to success and pathways to sustainable growth in professional communities.
David is a musician, hobbyist photographer, and avid reader.
