Architecture

On view now in the Ryder Lobby Exhibit Space

This exhibition focuses on wood frame housing and its impact on Boston’s urban and suburban evolution during the late nineteenth century. Housing as a topic of inquiry is inherently comprehensive in scope: it necessarily integrates issues from the urban scale of development and planning to the architectural scale of typology and construction detail. Wood frame construction democratized the building of domestic architecture by making its cost and processes available to the masses.
