Center for the Arts

The Center for the Arts curates, produces and presents artistic work and arts-integrated research at the intersection of arts, STEM, and health sciences across Northeastern’s global network. In an era of profound technological entanglement, the Center creates AI-resilient, human-centered spaces where people gather, experience art, and forge meaningful human connections. Our programming and research examine how technology shapes culture and society, cultivating a vibrant artistic culture at Northeastern that centers what only humans can do together.

Meet our new faculty director

Our work is guided by five key questions:

  • What do we need from the arts in this era in which our lives are so entangled with technology?
  • What happens when bodies share space—what forms of understanding and connection emerge from physical co-presence?
  • How can arts experiences deepen human relationships and community?
  • What aesthetic forms can help us see and understand our technological moment?
  • How can artistic inquiry illuminate the critical issues shaping our world?

Through these inquiries, the center positions artistic practice as a vital form of research that illuminates our technological entanglements and fosters human connection in ways that are distinctly resilient to automation and AI displacement.

It is a patchwork of vibrant color including purples, pinks, blue and yellow. The surface is richly textured and soft to the touch. The piece is installed horizontally on a table, giving visitors at the museum an opportunity to touch the art piece.
