Yuzhe (Satoh) Feng, Boston Public Library
Yuhze (Satoh) Feng will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in design in 2025. He completed his first co-op at the Norman B. Leventhal Map and Education Center at the Boston Public Library. He was able to share a few details about the experience. His responses have been edited for length and clarity.
Why did you choose this particular co-op?
I think this will be a good opportunity to improve both my art and design skills and also help me with my community skills.
What is your role? What are your responsibilities?
My position is called “visitor server & exhibit assistant,” so there are two parts of my job. One part is to sit in the front desk of the gallery, doing tours, and answering visitors’ questions. Another part is preparing for our next exhibit which is called “Heaven and Earth,” [which] we will be going to show two blue maps of China. I am designing the guidebook and some interaction design for the next exhibit.
What’s the most exciting part?
The most exciting part is when the exhibit starts on May 10. I can’t wait to do the tour to visitors from different countries and share the history and culture of China!
How has this impacted your learning? Is it something you want to pursue further? Will you be able to bring your experience back to the classroom/studies in any way?
I think the most important thing that impacted me was that I started to realize the importance of reading. Even though my major is design, I still need to read more articles to help me have better design work.
Thanks, Yuzhe!
