Northeastern University Vancouver is excited to host Jesse Joudrey, CTO of VRChat, to discuss the best ways of designing extended reality experiences that center social interaction.

XR has the potential to connect us to our experiences like no technology before it. But sometimes even the best experiences fall flat. There’s a secret, though. Experiences that contain other people are fundamentally different. This is a talk that discusses how different experiences have been improved by social presence.

Jesse started developing games on a home PC as a child. The creativity and unlimited expression called to him. His first job in the games industry was with EA Sports, working on the NHL, NBA and FIFA franchises. Missing the creativity of game development he founded a game studio with another former EA developer. A.C.R.O.N.Y.M. Games did Xbox live and playstation plus work before moving full time into Unity development. VRChat is his most expressive and creative endeavour to date. When Jesse and his cofounder, Graham Gaylor, started it, we knew our creators would be the stars and it was our job to set them free.

This talk is the fourth in a series on XR technologies hosted across the Northeastern University network of campuses. Students, faculty, and the general public are all welcome to join. The talk will be held on Zoom with time for questions from the audience. The talk will not be recorded.
