Sofie Hodara

Sofie Hodara is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the College of Arts, Media, and Design at Northeastern University. She holds a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, PA) and a MFA in Dynamic Media from Massachusetts College of Art and Design (Boston, MA). Her multimedia work sits at the intersection of the art and design disciplines and integrates traditional and emerging media in service of social critique; results range in form from paper weavings and letterpress prints, to interactive installations, mixed reality, and artificial intelligence.

She has spoken at conferences and exhibited across the country, including at Icebox Project Space in Philadelphia PA, UC San Diego’s Calit2 Theater, and Goethe-Institut Boston. Her work is in the permanent collections of Tutt Library’s Special Collections and Archives at Colorado College and of the Rare Book and Manuscript Library at the University of Pennsylvania, and has been featured in Fresh Paint Magazine (May 2016), Made in Mind Magazine (Fall 2015), the Journal of the New Media Caucus (V.11 N.02), and the Boston Globe (October 2018, June 2021). Hodara was a member artist at Bromfield Gallery (Boston, MA) from 2016 to 2019 and is co-founder of the International Institute of Contemporary Art and Theory, an artist-in-residence program based in Mangalia, Romania.

Her work is rooted in human-centered methodologies and is married with a deep interest in how we use – and should use – emerging technologies to be socially conscious and discerning makers.
