For my black box project, I asked ChatGPT to generate a crochet amigurumi pattern for a small teddy bear. I did some additional prompt engineering after doing some research on others’ attempts, but decided to just implement the initial response to my request. It is clear that the algorithm still does not understand the intricacies of crochet patterns and can only guess at sizing. It is also understandably difficult for ChatGPT to understand what the end product is, as patterns are encoded in abbreviations. My attempt was reasonably successful, but anything more complicated would have ended in disaster.
