From Civic to Clinical: A Data Design Residency

This student residency encompasses a variety of data visualization projects in support of the team at GoInvo, growing the design, public health and civics brains of the student and the company, as well as expanding their portfolios. These projects turn statistics about healthcare, civic policy, economics and other institutional behavior into something more readily available and understandable for everyday people of all backgrounds. After investigating how design can operationalize public knowledge, these visualizations shape public understanding, behavior and decisions. With more accessible and digestible information, everyday people can more confidently participate in complex systems.

Projects designed during this residency include:

1. The Reach of GoInvo’s Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) Visualization

A visual analysis of the impact of GoInvo’s SDOH visualization framework within the academic world and beyond. View the SDOH analysis.

2. Boston Housing Truths

A visual analysis and comparison of the state of home ownership in Boston, from 15 years ago to the present day. The narrative data experience reframes housing data around real affordability, guiding users through the gap between income, costs and supply. Explore the Boston Housing Truths website here.
