Y Ese Flow? is a zine that documents urban Dominican culture (dembow music, slang, and style) with the authenticity and context it has historically been denied. Growing up in Trenton, NJ as one of few Dominican kids, I experienced firsthand how my culture was mocked, then suddenly embraced as a trend across Latin American social media without acknowledgment of its Black and Caribbean roots. This project celebrates Black Dominican barrio culture both on the island and across the diaspora while examining the commodification and dismissal rooted in anti-Blackness.
