spark is a student-run, contemporary art gallery at Northeastern University. Founded by students in the spring of 2015, the gallery is meant to be a channel between the student community and contemporary art. The gallery mandate is to educate the University and community at large about local and international contemporary art. In addition, spark serves to practice art appreciation, the business of art, gallery, management and the creation of new ideas and new art forms.
spark is looking for submissions that respond to the question “what is 3D?” for its first show, XYZ, in the series “Media”.
“Media” is spark’s exploratory series based on common questions that arise as a contemporary visual artist, art historian, or art appreciator: What is actually going on in contemporary art?
What does it mean to create in threedimensions now? With the exponential growth in technology since the 70’s and 80’s, the contemporary art landscape has changed and we’re just beginning to understand the impact of the Internet, 3D printing, digital design, painting, and animation programs on ‘fine’ art practice. “Media” aims to analyze and display that impact through exhibitions of art practice based on disciplinary themes.
All submissions are welcome and will be judged based on the quality of the work, response to the prompt, and fit with the mission of spark.
Submissions should be sent via email to [email protected], and include:
- An image of the work with your name, title of the work, medium, and dimensions
- A short bio of yourself
- A brief description of installation for the piece(s)
