The co-op program has enabled Celeste Roh to test the digital marketing waters while expanding her horizons – both literally and figuratively. Her first co-op was with Wayfair LLC, an online home furnishings retailer headquartered here in Boston. The parent company of Joss & Main, Birch Lane, All Modern, and Perigold, Wayfair offered a unique corporate by hosting most operations in-house, relying heavily on data-driven strategies, and immersing its students in an array of cross-cutting workstreams.

To contrast the large corporate setting in her next co-op, Celeste ventured to New York City to pursue a role working directly with the CEO of Nouvel Heritage, a fine jewelry company selling “modern heirlooms” made exclusively in France. Her primary jobs for the start-up included assisting with social media marketing, acting as a communications liaison for the brand, and assisting with the creation of showroom displays for New York Fashion Week.

Though she eventually wants to pursue a career related to social justice, Celeste believes these very different co-op experiences – in conjunction with her Northeastern education – have helped strengthen both her digital marketing skills and confidence in the workplace.

“My general classwork in Communication Studies helped me in terms of meeting deadlines and getting work done. The co-op class was also very helpful in terms of how to prepare for high-stress situations.”
