SXSW is one of the largest arts festivals in the country, so naturally CAMD had to go check it out – for the second year in a row! This year, we are sending a team of nine CAMD students to Austin, Texas where they will be covering all of the action live through a blog, Facebook, Instagram (@northeasterncamd), and Twitter (@NU_CAMD) posts full of pictures, videos, and of course, music.
Follow along by using #NUsxsw on social media, and on our website. Meet the team, who will be experiencing and sharing all the action with us, below:
Lauren Bodin
My name is Lauren Bodin, I am a senior in the Music Industry program with a minor in Business at Northeastern University. I am most looking forward to attending the ‘Women in A&R: Navigating the Stereotypes’ panel at SXSW this year because I am inspired by the successful women speaking on the panel who have made a name for themselves and women everywhere in this predominantly male dominated sector of the industry.
Jenna Levi
Hi! I’m Jenna Levi and I’m a senior Music Industry major here at Northeastern. I’m super excited for SXSW 2017 – this year we’ve lucked out with some of the most incredible talents and panelists! I’m looking especially forward to a couple panels including Marketing in Untraditional Markets as well as Transferring Online Popularity to Offline Success.
Felippe Rodrigues
I’m Felippe Rodrigues, and I’m is a former law student-turned-reporter and a big fan of the Olympics. I’m a graduate student in Northeastern’s Journalism Media Innovation program currently reporting about digital storytelling, innovative media and the intersection of technology and journalism. At SXSW, I’m really looking forward to the panel “Disrupting J School with Digital Culture” with Cindy Royal, Matt Waite and Robert Hernandez.
Mary Wilson
I am a third-year Communications major and U.S. Navy Veteran, recently completing my 6 years of service as a Language Analyst. I am excited for this new chapter in my life, pushing my limits even further as an aspiring writer, producer, director, and social influencer. While many social causes are important to me, I have a special interest in providing a voice for people who struggle with invisible disabilities, as I am one of them. I’m most looking forward to “Shake Up the Industry by Entertaining with Empathy” presented by Justin Baldoni and Rainn Wilson.
Taylor Griffin
I am a senior Music Industry major with a business minor. I’m interested in A&R, Marketing and Brand Partnerships in the music industry. I’m excited for a lot of events at SXSW! One of the many artists: SAINt JHN. The session I’m looking forward to most is “Using Data to Discover the Next Big Thing.”
Ana Porta
My name is Ana Porta, and I am a senior in the Media and Screen Studies program with a minor in English at Northeastern University. I am most looking forward to attending the panel at SXSW entitled “Paradigm Shifts: Activism and the Role of Artists” because my greatest professional goal has been attempting to combine my passions for social justice and documentary storytelling.
Jordan Lawrence
My name is Jordan Lawrence. I am a junior majoring in Entrepreneurship and Innovation with a minor in Music Industry. I work for Universal Music Group on their College and Lifestyle Marketing team along with running my own artist development firm, Black Lodge Management. I am most looking forward to attending the panel “Can Playlists and Spotlights Break an Artist?” I also can’t wait to see some great new developing acts such as The Aces, Mondo Cozmo, and Nightly.
Rachel Grozanick
My name is Rachel Grozanick and I’m a journalism graduate student in the media innovation program. I’m looking forward to the “Engineered Collisions Between Games and News” session because I’m really interested in the intersection of games and journalism, which I think is the frontier of new media and might engage new, unlikely audiences to long-form journalism.
