Assistant Teaching Professor Jesse Hinson has received rave reviews for his performance as Valentine Coverly in Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia which kicks of the 23rd season of Rhode Island’s Sandra Feinstein Gamm Theatre. The sold out production has been extended through October 23.
Recognized as one of the greatest plays of the last 50 years, Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia moves back and forth between 1809 and the present at the estate owned by the Coverly family. The 19th century scenes reveal a household in transition. As the Arcadian landscape is being transformed into picturesque Gothic gardens, complete with a hermitage, thirteen year-old Lady Thomasina and her tutor delve into intellectual and romantic issues. Present day scenes depict the Coverly descendants and two competing scholars who are researching a scandal at the estate in 1809.
The Providence Journal proclaimed “Gamm cast shines in Tom Stoppard’s superb Arcadia.” WPRO called it, “an intellectual, passionate masterpiece that’s packed with wit and intelligence, perfectly cast and impeccably acted from lights up to bows.” The Edge Media Network wrote: “It is extremely rare, even on Broadway, for a production to achieve perfection. With its brilliant script, crisp direction and extraordinary acting, Gamm Theatre’s season opener, does just that. A production this worthy and sophisticated comes along only once in a decade or so. Don’t miss it.”
Arcadia runs through Oct. 23 at The Gamm Theatre. For information or tickets, call 401-723-4266 or visit www.gammtheatre.org.
