Joey Frangieh AMD ’12 has created quite a splash in the short time since he left Northeastern. Just this past year, he has found himself working on Broadway.  Joey was the assistant projection designer for two Broadway shows: On Your Feet, the Gloria Estefan musical, and Allegiance, the musical inspired by George Takei’s family’s experience in Japanese-American interment camps during World War II.

Closer to home, Joey founded his own theatre company upon graduation, the Boston Theatre Company. They have created a new play based on interviews with survivors of the Boston Marathon bombing called Finish Line.  Through 85 interviews conducted by a team of journalists and theater professionals, the original script was created verbatim from the transcripts. Joey and his collaborator Lisa Rafferty recently spoke to WFXT, Fox’s Boston affiliate about Finish Line, “We’re not writing a script.  We are providing a platform for other people’s stories to be told in their own words.  We are literally taking the exact experiences word for word, verbatim, and putting those in a dramatic setting and recreating those to honor and remember those individuals that were affected.”

WFXT’s feature about Finish Line.

The world-premiere of Finish Line runs April 7-23. Visit bostontheatercompany.org for more information and tickets.
