David McWane

For over 29 years I have been a touring musician with my band BIG D AND THE KIDS TABLE, having traveled throughout the world. The band has recorded 21 albums, produced over 20 music videos, and received numerous awards including 4 Boston Music Awards and 2 ‘Most Environmental Band’ on The Van’s Warped Tour. I have also written and produced theme songs for the children’s entertainment industry including LEGO, Disney, Little Airplane and China Bridge Content. And I wrote the anthems for the New England Revolution soccer team and the Free Jacks rugby team, as part of their branding activities. I am also a writer, having published 3 books of poetry, a tour documentary, a novel, and a movie short.

In the past ten years I have expanded my career to include college teaching, believing that I could use my extensive experience in the music business to energize students interested in making music a career. I have taught at Northeastern University in their Music Industry program, Northern Vermont University in their Music Business and Industry program and at Bay State College in their Music Business program. I have taught a range of classes, both onsite and online, including Introduction To The Music Industry, Entertainment Law, Marketing & Promotion, Artist Management, Touring, Songwriting, Demo Production For Songwriters, The Singer-Songwriter; performance and DIY essentials and Ethics. I have taught Record Label and Creative Collaboration workshops, where students produced and marketed a CD and an online compilation of their own music.

I talk to young musicians everywhere we perform and answer a myriad of questions about how to get started. The music industry is more and more complicated with the changes that have taken place over the past two decades. I can help students navigate this new world of music entrepreneurship.
