Feifei Shen is an artist, art educator, and interdisciplinary design and media PhD student at Northeastern University’s College of Arts, Media and Design. Her research focuses on art education, intergenerational learning, interactive media and technology, and social justice, with particular attention to how games, playful art experiences and creative technologies can support informal learning and intergenerational engagement within immigrant and BIPOC communities. She creates interactive storytelling games and community workshops that invite different generations to learn together, share stories, and reimagine cultural and ecological futures. Her work draws on constructionism, culturally relevant pedagogy, community-based informal learning, and participatory design. She has presented her work at education conferences including NAEA and AERA, as well as HCI venues such as CHI and CHI PLAY. She holds a master’s degree in education technology from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a master’s degree in art and design education from the Rhode Island School of Design.
Beyond her research, Feifei Shen is actively involved in community art teaching and learning. She is the co-founder of FeelArts Studio, which offers community art education and healing workshops both online and in person. Previously, she served as Engagement Manager for AAPI art communities in Boston area at the Pao Arts Center, and she has led community art workshops at the Harvard Art Museums and the RISD Museum. Across her research, teaching, and creative practice, she is committed to designing learning experiences that center community voices, honor intergenerational knowledge, and open pathways toward imaginative educational futures.
