Hasibur Rahman

Hasibur Rahman is a PhD student in Interdisciplinary Design and Media at Northeastern University. His research is in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), with a focus on conversational AI and how people interact with intelligent systems. He is particularly drawn to the conversational mysteries of human-AI interaction and how people make meaning of AI behavior through dialogue. His work examines how people understand, interpret, and negotiate AI behavior in conversation, and how these interactions shape perceptions of intelligence, agency, trust, and collaboration.

Drawing on perspectives from HCI, communication, and design, he studies the mental models people develop about AI systems and the expectations they bring into human-AI conversations. He is interested in how language mediates relationships between humans and intelligent technologies, and how conversational systems can be designed to support more meaningful, transparent, and human-centered interactions. More broadly, his research explores how people construct understanding around increasingly capable AI systems and what these processes reveal about communication, sensemaking, and technology in everyday life.

His work has appeared in premier HCI and AI venues, including CHI and AAAI. Prior to joining Northeastern, Hasibur completed a double major in Computer Science and Interactive Media at New York University Abu Dhabi. His interdisciplinary training across computing, design, and media continues to inform his approach to studying human-AI interaction.
