Jamal is currently a postdoctoral fellow at MIT, where he studies music perception using tools from neuroscience, psychology, and machine learning. During his PhD, he was named a Presidential Fellow at Princeton and received the NIH DSPAN F99/K00 Award. His research focuses on the neural and computational principles that link music, cognition, and perception, with a particular interest in how music shapes episodic memory. Outside of research, Jamal enjoys producing music, DJing, biking, watching films, and reading sci-fi.
