Monica Storss

Monica Storss is a poet-theorist, researcher, educator, and humanities futurist working at the intersection of the arts, emerging technologies, digital humanities, and spatial computing. She is a PhD student in Interdisciplinary Design and Media at Northeastern University’s College of Arts, Media and Design, where her research develops experimental publishing methods for XR technologies, and Relational Poetics as a theory, method, and practice for understanding how humans, technologies, texts, and communities co-create meaning.

Her work focuses on AI pedagogy, augmented reality, experimental publishing, electronic literature, archives, and technology stewardship. She is the creator of The Augmented Reality Poetry Machine, an interactive ongoing spatial poetry encounter and system first presented at MIT Hacking Arts, deployed to Earth’s moon in 2021. She is the creator of The Oracles, a closed AI poetry model trained on her own writing. Her current research explores AR publishing, relational archives, AI literacy, and ethical and off-world approaches to creativity in emerging technological systems.

In 2025 Storss edited one of the first ever collections of XR creative writing for Re:mediate. This historic volume has been archived and is the subject of a forthcoming chapter with Routledge. She is currently in process of establishing the world’s- first XR-native literary small press.

Storss is an instructor in Northeastern University’s Arts Administration and Cultural Entrepreneurship graduate program, where she teaches courses on information technology, experiential learning, and AI in the Arts. She is the current Women@MIT Fellow, with work focused on archives, augmented reality, experimental publishing, and Women’s contributions in new media. She is Scholar-In-Residence at Northeastern’s Digitial Integration Teaching Initiative. She holds an MA highest honors in English and Poetry from the University of California, Davis, and a BA in English, magna cum laude, from Portland State University.

Across academic, artistic, and industry contexts, Storss has led large-scale organizational learning, digital transformation, and technology initiatives with organizations including MIT, HP, Intel, Biogen, PayPal, Xerox, museums, nonprofits, and higher education institutions. Her work centers access, relationality, creative agency, and the ethical design of technologies for public knowledge and cultural life.
