Myojung Chung is an associate professor of journalism and media innovation at Northeastern University. Her research primarily examines the intersection of digital media, misinformation, and Artificial Intelligence (AI), with a specific focus on understanding the spread and consequences of misinformation and developing effective countermeasures, particularly exploring the role of AI. Dr. Chung’s work has been published in leading social science journals such as New Media & Society, Digital Journalism, Human Communication Research, and Computers in Human Behavior. Her scholarship has also garnered significant recognition at prestigious conferences, earning top paper awards from ICA, NCA, and AEJMC. Her research endeavors are further supported by funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Korea Foundation. Additionally, she has served as the U.S.-Korea Next Generation Scholar at CSIS (2022-2023) and a Rebooting Social Media (RSM) Visiting Scholar at the Harvard Berkman Klein Center (2024-2025).
Prior to her academic career, Dr. Chung gained extensive professional experience as a journalist at Yonhap News Agency, South Korea’s leading news outlet, and as a strategic communication manager at SK Telecom, the largest telecommunication service provider in South Korea. She also has first-hand working experience at the UN Headquarters and the Korean National Commission to UNESCO. Dr. Chung currently holds an advisory role as a board member at the Harvard Rappaport Institute.
