Samantha Jones is an ethnomusicologist, musician, and dancer. She received her PhD from Harvard University in ethnomusicology, a Master’s of Music in musicology from Boston University, and bachelor’s degrees in music and cognitive science from the University of Connecticut. In addition to her post at Northeastern, she holds a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University in the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences Fellowships & Writing Center, and lectures at MIT.
Dr. Jones’s current book project examines the role that musical thinking plays in choreographic learning, memory, and social encounter, focusing specifically on diasporic communities of Irish dancers in the United States. In addition to her work on Irish traditional music and dance, she also researches film music, music and aging, and festivals. Samantha is active as a performer and teacher of Irish dance in the Boston area.
